Excuses

14 Jun

Things have been a little hectic chez Granny Cart since returning from Colorado and I’ve spent very little time in the kitchen.

It’s frustrating… This is the very best time of year for the Greenmarket and I’ve already let an entire day’s haul go bad in the refrigerator through neglect.

So, what I’m trying to say is, I have no recipe, no witty post for you today, but I’ll make up for it with, what I think is, a very pretty picture.

The Rocket Returns

If you don’t know who that little man in the circle is, that’s okay, we can still be friends.

The boy’s mother had told us months ago that she’d like to come visit and go see a Yankees game, so we bought some tickets. It just so happened to turn out that the tickets were for the return of Roger Clemens to the Stadium.

I’m not a huge Clemens fan. I remain of two minds as to whether he’s an asset or not, but I can tell you for sure that it was the best game I’ve ever been to. So fun, so loud, such a good time. Exactly what a baseball game should be. Oh, and the hotdog was delicious.

If it had just been the Boy and I returning from a game, we probably would have cooked up some steaks and relaxed with a bottle of wine, but instead we took his mom out to dinner.

And then the next day I was going to cook when I discovered the veggie massacre in my “crisper” drawer.

Ah, how life gets in the way. Instead of Smoked Pork Loin Smothered in Roasted Rhubarb Compote and Baby Carrots, we had a pie from Singas.

So, I hope you’ll forgive me and stick around. I know a recipe site is kinda dull when there are no recipes, but I promise I’ll do my best this weekend, that is if Life doesn’t get in the way again.

Aw, don’t be too hard on yourself… in addition to being the beginning of prime Greenmarket season, it’s also a time of year where people have lots of things to do, people to see, places to go… you know what I mean. :)

Pork loin with roasted rhubarb compote? I need nothing other than the suggestion of something so divine and my morning is suddenly getting much better. I agree with jenblossom, don’t be hard on yourself.

Completely unfood related… but …. I’m not a Yankees fan by any means (Mets fan) – but Clemens, while he was a terrific Yankees pitcher, has no loyalty whatsoever, and were I a Yankees fan, that would bother me a LOT. What he pulled a few years ago was unforgivable, in my book! Having said that, I did go to a few games that he pitched and he is quite good, except once he loses his concentration, it’s ovah. And he was doing that a lot before he left last time.

We’ll get over it, Ann. Besides, you’re setting a nice precedent for me. We’re going to St. Louis for the weekend [where we won’t, unfortunately, see a Cardinals game], and I intend my next post to be a recipe-free story about this lovely, underrated city that looms large in my life.

Hope the Boy’s mom had a great visit.

    Jenblossom — You’re such a voice of reason… Thanks :-)

Mary — I’m still regretting not having made it. Perhaps this weekend!

Yvo — Thank you for being completely unfood related! I love a good Mets v. Yankees faceoff (Speaking of which, isn’t this weekend another subway series?) My loyalty lies with Moose. God I love that man.

TerryB — I look forward to your St Louis posts!! Glad to set the precedent for laziness (or something) it’s so not a role I’m used to! And thanks for asking, the Boy’s mom had a great time!

Don’t worry. It happens to me nearly every day but I try to share food tidbits instead.

No worries–this just gives us time to look back through your other posts to find good recipes we may have accidentally forgotten about.

The package is in the mail. Expect it soon!

I think all of us have done food blog posts without food. Yes, we all love to cook and eat, but at this point, for those of us who read each other’s blogs on a regular basis, it feels like we’re a community. So your story is like sitting down with you in your living room with a glass of wine and sharing the latest news. Stories, recipes – whatever. We’re all friends. Here……..want some more wine?

Izzy’s Mama — Kids make everything funnier and more interesting though ;-)

Christina — Thanks! I have to wait til the market on Wednesday to pick up your side of the exchange… It’s worth the wait though, I promise!

Toni — Yes, more wine please! You’re so kind!

I hope you won´t hold it against me if I really have no idea who the guy in the centre is. However, I´ll say that I really like the Yankees. They sound like the Real Madrid of baseball.

LS — HA! The Yankees are the Real Madrid of baseball, and Roger Clemens (the Rocket) is definitely the David Beckham (Becks) of the sport!

Love that picture. Sitting in the stands watching a baseball game is the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon or evening.
