The Nose Knows

26 Sep

Any regular reader of Cute Overload (And yes, I’ll admit it, I’m one of them. I mean, how’s a girl supposed to get through a day without the occassional Corgi-in-a-swing?) knows that the most delightful part of any animal is its nose, and that chickens are awesome.  And so, without further ado, I present you with the noses and beaks (and some sheep in spandex, because, I mean, how could you not take a picture of sheep in spandex?) of the Columbia County Fair.

Never Bite The Hike That Feeds You

2 Sep

It was Isaac’s birthday on Sunday.

I had to give him his birthday present a month early so that I would have a kayaking friend up in the Adirondacks.  So for his actual birthday I declared it an Isaac-gets-to-do-whatever-he-wants weekend. Lucky for me that meant kayaking, lamb burgers and a really nice hike.

Hiking is nice. But hiking with food is better!

Gardening For Pretty

17 Jun

My mom came over to the house on Saturday (the rest of the family, too).

We ate ribs and cake and salad, drank wine and talked and talked and talked. We celebrated my step-sister’s birthday, my nephew’s birthday, my birthday and an early Father’s Day. It was fun.

And as I was showing everyone around the garden, I realized that this year I’m gardening for pretty.

Wanna see? Head below the jump.

Sunset

16 Jun

I was just going through photos for another post and I was finally able to take the time and check out these photos of a sunset that I took several weeks ago. They’re so pretty.  I just had to share.

Around The Edges

3 Jun

On Monday, I went paddling on Kinderhook Lake.

It should have been a bit naive of me to expect the lake to be serene, peaceful and calm on the first weekend of Summer, but honestly it just never occurred to me.  Why was it naive?  Because it’s the very same lake that I spent countless weekends on as a kid, zooming around behind my father’s speedboat–clutching, grasping onto an inflatable raft–screaming and giggling and panting for breath.  Two decades later, little has changed.  So I stuck to the edges.

What happens when New Yorkers leave New York? Bad things … for turtles!
