The Nose Knows

26 Sep

Any regular reader of Cute Overload (And yes, I’ll admit it, I’m one of them. I mean, how’s a girl supposed to get through a day without the occassional Corgi-in-a-swing?) knows that the most delightful part of any animal is its nose, and that chickens are awesome.  And so, without further ado, I present you with the noses and beaks (and some sheep in spandex, because, I mean, how could you not take a picture of sheep in spandex?) of the Columbia County Fair.

12th Street

26 Aug

I started a little project that will soon be coming to an end.

When we moved our offices into the Forbes building a few months ago I was shocked by how beautiful West 12th Street is.

Head below the jump for a very buried lede.

The Slow Road

12 Aug

Last weekend we took a road trip.

We drove up to the house late Friday and then early Saturday morning we hopped in the car and headed for Lake Winnepesauke in New Hampshire.  Originally when we looked at the map, we both groaned a little.  Take I-90. Take I-91. Take I-89. Take I-93. Or conversely, take I-95!  Where’s the fun in spending 10 hours in a car when all you’re doing is speeding along at 70 miles per hour.

Sometimes fast is fun. Other times call for slow.

Brilliant Big Wolf

Another year, another trip north, to the Adirondacks.  And now that I’m looking at this year’s photos, I’m also noticing that this trip was in Technicolor!

Color! Color! Color! More below the jump.

On Cameras

22 Jul

Anyone who is a regular (or even just occasional) visitor here can probably figure out quite quickly that I like taking pictures.

And it’s true. I do.

I recently went through a few weeks of withdrawal when I sent my beloved G9 back to Canon. It felt like a little piece of me had gone missing. I still had the little Casio Exilim I carry everywhere in my purse, and we spent some quality time together, but I was frustrated by its limitations. It’s a good camera for taking quick shots on my daily commute, but lacks the flexibility I have come to rely upon in my Canon.  Thankfully, though, my Canon came back just in time for our trip to Palm Springs, and all was well.

My love affair with cameras is an old one, first kindled in adolescence by 4-H.  Our club leader had a friend with a dark room, so he convinced him to teach us some photographic basics and how to develop our own photos.  Each kid had to supply their own camera though, and my father gave me the beautiful Asahi SLR that he had bought in Asia when he was on a tour during the early days of the Vietnam War.

On memory.
